A Different Look at Vignettes – f64 Academy

Vignettes in Photoshop and ACR + Lightroom Vignettes are extremely powerful tools for grabbing your viewer’s attention.  They can very quickly make an ordinary photo look incredible!  But, there are some problems with traditional vignettes.

1.  They can look too contrived if not blended well.
2.  Traditional ACR or Lightroom vignettes don’t give you a whole lot of control.
3.  Sometimes it just looks like a giant ring around your photo.

NUCLEO 150 KUNSTENAARS – ATELIER #13

Vandaag, zondag 17 mei 2020, hadden 150 kunstenaars graag de deur van hun NUCLEO-atelier voor u opengezet. Door de corona maatregelen kan deze 13de editie van OPEN ATELIERS — dan toch een ongeluksgetal? — helaas voor het eerst sinds 2002 niet doorgaan in zijn klassieke vorm. We besloten er een digitale editie van te maken en vroegen alle 150 kunstenaars om een link, zodat jullie al klikkend op ontdekkingstocht kunnen. Anneleen Van Offel en Eva De Groote vatten het belang van werkruimte in woord en we geven een overzicht van de gebouwen die NUCLEO beheert.

Photography, video and imaging fair | photokina – CANCELLED

After intensive consultation, Koelnmesse GmbH has decided to cancel Photokina 2020, originally planned to be held 27 to 30 May 2020.

The next installment of the leading international trade fair for photography, video and imaging will be presented from 18 to 21 May 2022. The Imaging Innovation Conference will not be celebrating its première in 2020 as originally planned; a new date will be coordinated.

De ontdekking van de foto’s van René Magritte in de jaren ‘70, tien jaar na het overlijden van de schilder, heeft een nieuw licht geworpen op zijn creatieproces en de nauwe banden die hij heeft met “het mechanische beeld”, het zij fotografisch of cinematografisch. Sindsdien zijn andere beelden, afkomstig uit albums van zijn verwanten, opgedoken die de studie van de relaties schilderkunst – fotografie in het oeuvre van René Magritte vervolledigen, maar eveneens de invloed van de film, een kunstvorm waarop Magritte dol was, zoals ook op de populaire literatuur.

How to use the Inverted adjustment Layer to fix over-saturation Have you ever seen Stranger Things on Netflix? It is one of my wife and I’s favorite shows to watch when the kids go to bed. We have far surpassed all the episodes and are longing for the next season. We are babies of the ’80s after all. One thing I noticed in that highly addictive Netflix show is how much it can teach us about photo post-production. There is this alternate universe in the show, a very ugly place, that routinely finds itself seeping into the ordinary world. That got me thinking about the Invert Adjustment Layer in Photoshop. When you first use it, it can be an ugly place, and quite frankly it does nothing fantastic to portraits, babies, or beautiful landscapes. However, there is important data in that upside-down world and if we can learn to harness it, we can unlock some incredible knowledge about our photos.

Photoshop Hacking: Dodging and Buring! Every once in a while, I find a new way to do things. I am always experimenting in Photoshop. Sometimes I try new techniques and other times I work to revolutionize on old techniques. That happened recently with Dodging and Burning the other day and I had an epiphany! Dodging and Burning is a critical step in my workflow in Photoshop, but sometimes I find the interface of Photoshop to be distracting. With all the tools, tabs, features, functions, and windows, it can look more like a lab than a place to make art. And that is precisely what I am doing in Photoshop when I dodge and burn. I make artistic decisions and sculpt the light in my photo.
